Shellie Zimmerman, 26, has filed for divorce from her husband George Zimmerman, 29 , according to ABC News on Thursday. This occurrence in George Zimmerman’s life occurs less than two months after he was acquitted of Sanford, Florida shooting death of Trayvon Martin.
Mrs. Zimmerman filed the necessary legal documents for divorce a couple days after she revealed on an ABC News interview that the entire Trayvon Martin-court proceedings had put a definite strain on the couple’s marriage.
Mrs. Zimmerman was seen in court last month – without her husband – pleading guilty to perjury charges for having lied about her and her husband’s finances when bail was being set by the judge for Mr. Zimmerman during the time he was incarcerated. During the interview, she stated that she felt very much alone without her husband in the courtroom. She also said in the interview that she would have to think about whether she would stay married to her husband or not.
For the perjury charge, Mrs. Zimmerman must complete 100 hours of community service and be on probation for one year.
She also said that she fears the current lifestyle with her husband, living like gypsies in a trailer in the woods, fearing someone will find them and harm them. She also reasserted that she believes her husband killed Trayvon Martin in self-defense and there was nothing racist about his actions.
