George Zimmerman has been charged with aggravated assault, domestic violence battery and criminal mischief after an incident involving his current girlfriend. Zimmerman, who was acquitted earlier this year in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, allegedly pointed a gun at his girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe, Monday afternoon. He was arrested at her home in Central Florida.
"When we arrived, the victim indicated that she and George Zimmerman were having a verbal dispute and at that time she alleged that he had broken a table and pointed a long-barrel shotgun at her," Seminole County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Dennis Lemma said at a news conference.
Zimmerman has had several brushes with the law since his controversial acquittal, including a domestic dispute between himself and his estranged wife, Shellie Zimmerman, in which he allegedly punched his father-in-law and then threatened to kill both of hem. Shellie has said she has doubts of his innocence in the Martin case. He has also been pulled over for speeding twice, once while carrying a weapon. The officer gave him a warning for that instance.
Zimmerman is being held without bond, and is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow, Tuesday, at 1:30 p.m.
