George Washington women win quad-meet

The George Washington women’s gymnastics team won a quad-meet on Friday evening.

George Washington posted a team total of 194.475. Host Towson University took second with 194.100 followed by Southern Connecticut who placed third with 191.325 and West Chester with 189.150, taking fourth.

GW was strong on vault. Junior Taylor Henderson scored the team high and placed second with a 9.825. Senior Stephanie Stoicovy had a strong vault as well, posting a 9.800.

Uneven bars were the Colonial’s strongest apparatus. Henderson and Stoicovy each posted the team high of 9.775 and tied for third on the apparatus.

Balance beam was just as successful for the team. Stoicovy scored the team high of 9.850 and won the apparatus. Junior Betsey Zander placed second with a 9.825.

Floor exercise, which has been George Washington’s strength this season, was a surprising struggle for the team. The team high came from Stoicovy with a 9.775. But the team had to count a 9.500 and a 9.525.

In the all-around, Stoicovy took first with a total of 39.200. Freshman Abby Griswold of Towson placed second with 38.950 and Zander took third with 38.475.

The next meet for the George Washington women will be a home meet on Sunday, March 17 against Towson, Maryland and Brown.
