On April 6, at the Academy of Country Music (ACM) awards, that were held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, veteran country star George Strait was crowned "Entertainer of the Year," winning the night's highest award. He is dubbed by fans and critics alike as "King George."

In his acceptance speech, he remarked, "Wow. Thank you so much. I've always said that I had the best fans in the world and I heard that this was a fan-voted thing, so I rest my case. I tell you what 'this is so amazing.' It has been an amazing past 30 years. I want to thank MCA Records, the only label I have ever been on. What a great crew. Thank you so much for your support for all of these years."

Strait went on to thank his wife, children and his family. "Thank God for all of these things that he has blessed me with. Thank you to the Academy of Country Music. I love all of you. Thank you so much," he said graciously.
