George Strait wins ASCAP Founders Award

Country music legend George Strait has won another prestigious award, the ASCAP Founders Award as announced by Taste of Country on August 14, 2014.

The ASCAP Founders Award is one of the highest honors presented to songwriters and composers who have made considerable contributions to music. Straight certainly qualifies, as he has sold millions of copies of his music and has more number one hits than any other country music artist.

Straight will be honored and bestowed the award on Monday, November 4, 2013 at a private black tie party at the Music City Center in Nashville, Tn. at the 51st Annual ASCAP Country Music Awards. The awards will honor both singers and songwriters with the most played songs between April 1, 2012 and March 31, 2013.

Strait retired from official touring earlier this year with the "Cowboy Walks Away Tour" but said he will continue to write songs and perform on occasion.

Straight will join fellow country music artists Garth Brooks and Alan Jackson as a winner of this award.
