All good things must end….even King George Strait’s touring career. However, there isn’t any need for fretting. He will leave you with a smile and he crosses his heart that it will have one heck of an ending. The country star spoke at a press conference in Arlington, Texas on Monday, September 9, that announced his final tour dates for his 2014 ‘The Cowboy Rides Away’ Tour.
Beginning in the winter and stretching into the spring, the down-home cowboy will visit 26 cities (dates and venues listed below), with the tour wrapping at AT&T Stadium where the press conference took place today. The date of his final show is yet to be determined. To keep everything fresh and exciting, he will be changing up his opening acts throughout the tour. Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Sheryl Crow, Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Sheryl Crow, Ronnie Dunn, Vince Gill, Merle Haggard, Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town, Martina McBride, Lee Ann Womack, Chris Young and others to be announced, are among those receiving this priceless honor.
Strait expressed that within his variety of acts are some that he has never worked with before.
“Others we’ve worked with through the years and wanted to get together one more time and do a final blastoff,” said Strait.
Acts like Aldean are on the roster, because, “We wanted to get some guys that are really relevant now to come out.”
Though Strait will no longer consistently tour, he will continue to make music. His longtime record label, MCA recently revealed that Strait has signed with them for five more albums. It was also revealed today that the ‘Carrying Your Love With Me” singer will also continue to play isolated tour dates around the country after the tour.
The country superstar who has been racking up hits for three decades has achieved more #1 singles than any artist in history (including Elvis). With 69 million records sold, and 33 different platinum or multi-platinum albums to his name, Strait was not surprisingly inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
It doesn’t take a sales or marketing expert to know that tickets are going to sell like hotcakes once they become available. Fan club members can retrieve their gold during a pre-sale period beginning at 10 a.m. in each venue’s respective time zone on Sept. 24. American Express card members can also buy their tickets before the general public. Tickets will be open to the general public beginning Sept. 27 at 10:00 a.m. in select markets at georgestrait.com.
