The king is coming. No, not some government monarchy and Elvis is not returning, unfortunately. What I am talking about is the currently anointed King of Country, George Strait, who will be making a stop in St. Louis next Friday, February 17.
Currently on tour in support of his latest CD “Here for a Good Time”. Strait, a country star who has maintained a more traditional sound and thrived, even during the emergence of the new country sound, will perform at the Scottrade Center for an evening of number one hits that span his remarkable career.
Strait’s fame is legendary. If you need confirmation all you need to do is look at his string of 30 consecutive years of having a top 10 single on a Billboard chart (a record), his 44 Number 1 hits on Billboard magazine’s Top Country Singles charts (the most of any country artist, beating Conway Twitty by 4), to his numerous awards; like the ACMA Artist of the Decade for the 2000’s, Billboard magazine’s top country artist of the past 25 years, 22 CMA awards, and induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2006. No other artist in country music has earned such accolades.
He has won so many awards that many in the industry consider him a living legend.
Strait’s newest CD is a unique turn for him in that he co-wrote 7 of the 11 tracks with his son Bubba, whom he cites as the driving force to get him to start writing again. Strait has relied on someone else to write for him throughout his illustrious career. He did so well writing that the CD is nominated for a Grammy Award for best Country Album.
Just how much Strait plays from this current CD at the concert next Friday remains to be seen, but you can bet that the rest of the set will be a herd of number one hits. His current single is "Love's Gonna Make it Alright" and is currently inching up the Top Country Songs chart in Billboard Magazine at the #11 spot.
The stage will be set up in the middle of the floor of the Scottrade Center, giving more in the audience a closer view of this iconic legend.
Martina Mcbride will open the show, which begins at 7:30. Doors open at 6:00.
Tickets are still available and are priced from $39.50 to $79.50, and they can be ordered online here or at the Scottrade center boxoffice
