George Stevens advances to the quarterfinals with 59-53 victory over Dexter

DEXTER-- The George Stevens Eagles boys basketball team started quick and finished strong in their 59-53 class C preliminary round victory over Dexter at Ed Guiski gymnasium on Wednesday evening.

Brett Ingraham made two 3-pointers to spark an 8-0 Eagles run to start the game.

Finn McMahon-Allwine made a basket late in the first quarter to give the Eagles an 18-7 lead.

Dexter ended the second quarter on a 10-2 run to take a 33-26 lead going into halftime.

The Tigers outscored George Stevens 26-8 in the second quarter.

Dexter took their biggest lead when Trevor Fogarty gave them a 39-30 lead with 4:09 remaining in the third quarter.

George Stevens took over from that point.

The Eagles went on an 18-2 run that was sparked by four 3-pointers. They shot 7-13 (57.8%) from behind the three point line for the game.

Dexter cut the lead to 50-48 with 2:42 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Kelsey Allen made a three pointer to give the Eagles a 53-48 lead.

George Stevens went 8-8 from the free throw line in the final three minutes to secure the victory.

Allen led the Eagles with 15 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Philip Shaheen added 13 points (3-4 three pointers).

Ingraham recorded 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

Finn Davis-Batt scored eight points and pulled down seven rebounds.

McMahon-Allwine added six points and four assists.

George Stevens (10-9) will face Lee Academy in a quarterfinal game on Tuesday, February 18th at 9:35 a.m. at Cross Insurance Center.

Bailey Spack led the Tigers with 18 points, three rebounds, and three assists.

Freshman Zach White came off the bench to score 11 points.

Ethyn Gould recorded 10 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks.

Fogarty added nine points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Matt Bartlett chipped in with five points for the Tigers who finished the season with a record of 11-8.
