Good Morning America replaces Diane Sawyer with anchor George Stephanopoulos. His first day on the job will be December 14th, 2009. ABC News made it official last week: George Stephanopoulos is the new co-anchor of "Good Morning America." His first day as co-anchor along with Juju Chang, will be joining Robin Roberts and Sam Champion as the newly formed GMA anchor team.
"Im pleased to announce that beginning Monday Dec. 14, our new anchor team at 'Good Morning America' will be in place and on the air," ABC News President David Westin said in an email to the ABC News staff."
Westin continues, "Stephanopoulos will anchor the broadcast with Robin Roberts and replaces Diane Sawyer, who will become the new anchor of "World News" beginning Dec. 21."
Stephanopoulos is also the network's chief political correspondent, reporting on political and policy stories for all ABC News broadcasts and platforms. He anchors ABC's Sunday morning political affairs program, "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" as well.
George Robert Stephanopoulos (48) was born in Fall River, Massachusetts. Stephanopoulos now lives in Washington, D.C. with his wife, Alexandra Wentworth, and two daughters, Elliott and Harper.
Good Morning America airs on Rhode Island's ABC, channel 6.
