George's Hy Mart Deli
You would not have the slightest clue that this is one of the best sandwich joints in all of LA. Seated at the inconspicuous corner of Camarillo and Lankershim in North Hollywood, Hy Mart Deli is truly a gem in a sea of Subways and Quiznos. Their menu consists of predominately Greek/Mediterranean cuisine-gyro, dolma, hummus, as well as an array of traditional sandwiches. An amazing invention is their Bennito’s Burrito, a heavenly vegetarian mix of falafel, labni (fresh cheese made from yogurt), lettuce, yogurt, olive, cucumber, and avocado all wrapped up into a hefty sized burrito. The food is downright fresh and taste like it was made with a considerable amount of love and care.
Hy Mart Deli is run by a lovely Persian family of mom, pop, and son. Every customer who walks in is treated like a dear friend; their mannerism is kindness and cordiality itself. Although the setting is fundamentally fast food, they want you to sit down and take the time to enjoy your food before you pay. And enjoy you will. Like a true community shop, the family converses with the patrons, remember your name and order, and makes no hesitation to befriend any newbie who, up until that point, have been hopelessly ignorant of this place.
