George Ranch Historical Park celebrates Spring Break

George Ranch Historical Park is open and ready for visitors for Spring Break. The Park is open from Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., and admission is only $10 for adults, $9 for seniors (ages 62 and up), and $5 for children (ages 5 through 15). Children under 4 are free.

From March 11 to 15 and 18 to 22, George Ranch Historical Park will have daily activities including kite flying, Victorian Croquet, soap whittling, ice cream making, fishing lure creation, stick horse barrel racing, and a selection of vintage games, including nine pins, graces, pick-up sticks, hoops, shuttlecock and battledore, and coffee can stilts.

In addition, there will be the Time Traveler’s Scavenger Hunt, open to Park attendees, which lets participants solve riddles and win small prizes. Each day there will be a Historic Lunch at 12:30 p.m. which includes grilled sausages with peppers and onions, sliced ham, baked beans, slaw, potato salad, roast corn pone, rolls, corn bread with honey, cobblers, and tea. (To participate in the lunch, you must make a reservation ahead of time by calling 281-343-0218, ext. 410. Spaces for the lunch fill quickly, so be sure to make the reservation as far in advance as possible.)

Special activities for Spring Break include the gaming hour at 11 a.m., the dancing hour at 1 p.m., story hour at 2 p.m., and cattle demonstrations at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. There will also be Saturday Cattle Drives on March 15 and 22 that will be held at 11:30 a.m. in lieu of the normal cattle demonstration. There will also be a vintage baseball game on Saturday, March 22.
