George Michael celebrated his 51st birthday in good health and with good spirit. According to a report by WENN on Wednesday, the birthday boy gave pop diva Mariah Carey the green light to cover his 1988 hit “One More Try” for her new album.

The R&B starlet included her own version of the song on her latest album release, “Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chateuse.” Both flattered and honored, Michael took to Twitter Wednesday night to express his gratitude of a talent like Carey covering his song and he also gave her permission to cover the hit song. He tweeted, “@MariahCarey thank u for recording (sic) One more try. Such an honour 2 (sic) have one of the best voices in the world singing my song. Gorgeous @MariahCarey….PS, love the album! Big kiss, The singing Greek.”

Mariah Carey was also flattered by the praise she was given by Michael. The “I Don’t Wanna Cry” singer retweeted the British singer by thanking him and wishing him a happy birthday. Donatella Versace, a mutual friend of both Carey and Michael, caught wind of Mariah’s version and could only compliment the touch Carey added to the song.

She wrote in a review for, “I can’t stop listening to Mariah’s rendition of ‘One More Try.’ George Micheal is a great friend and one of my favorite artists, so I never think that anyone can do justice to his music. But I feel that Mariah really understands every word that he has written. At times her voice is angelic, at times pleading and then, towards the end, it goes into a crescendo reaching amazing heights. I’m sure that George would be very proud of Mariah’s version of his much-loved song.”

Versace was right on with George Michael loving the song and from the sound of it, Mariah Carey will make it a hit once again in 2014. As for Michael, he celebrated his birthday with much more emphasis after suffering another health scare just weeks ago. The birthday boy is already back in the studio recording a new record.
