George Lucas is engaged to his long time girlfriend, Mellody Hobson, according to his production company LucasfilmLtd. that confirmed it Jan. 3. Lucas' daughter Amanda supposedly leaked the news on Twitter. Lucas, 68, and Hobson, 43, have been involved for the last seven years. It has not been revealed publicly where or when the nuptials will be taking place.
Mellody Hobson is the president of Chicago investment firm Ariel Investments LLC. She also serves on the board of directors for Hollywood studio Dreamworks Animation SKG Inc., Starbucks Corp., the coffeehouse chain, Groupon Inc., the Internet coupon company, and Estee Lauder Companies Inc., the cosmetics company.
George Lucas directed the 1971 science-fiction film "THX 1138" which brought Lucas to fame. He also launched "Star Wars" in 1977 and built it into one of the highest money making franchises of all time. Lucas sold Lucasfilm and the "Star Wars" franchise to Walt Disney Co. for $4.05 billion in November 2012.
This will be Lucas' second marriage. He was married from 1969 to 1983 to Oscar winning film editor Marcia Lucas. This will be Mellody's first marriage. George's children include Amanda, 31, Katie, 26, and Jett. 19.
