George Harrison's birthday being celebrated around the country, on the 'net

Events celebrating George Harrison's birthday will take place Friday and Saturday in various places around the country.

In Hollywood, there will be a ceremony at his star on the Walk of Fame starting at 6 p.m. PT. The event will include performances of music and cupcakes to celebrate his life. Admission is free.

You'll also be able to see "Concert For George" streamed free Friday on the web.

On Saturday in New York, Roberta Flack will top the bill at "Sid Bernstein Presents New York Celebrates George Harrison," at 7:30 p.m. ET at the New York Society For Ethical Culture, 2 West 64th St., New York City. Also on the bill are the Doughboys, the Grip Weeds (named for John Lennon's character in "How I Won the War," The 253 Boys, Lou Volpe, the Wyld Olde Souls and Something (who took their name from George Harrison's Beatles song). Sid Bernstein, who promoted the Beatles at Carnegie Hall and Shea Stadium, is presenting this concert in association with Flower Power Creative. Flack is releasing a Beatles tribute CD later this year.  Tickets are $40-$100 and can be purchased at this link

But even if you don't celebrate it at one of these events, George's music lives on. His words still resonate. "Life goes on within you and without you."

Note: In 1996, George Harrison gave a rare interview to Paul Cashmere, editor of Undercover Music which he allowed me to print on my Abbeyrd Beatles Page news site. It's a wonderful chat. You can read it here.
