George Clooney: Movies make actor girlfriend list famous

George Clooney movies have made the actor famous, but who is he really in his personal life? With every new fall movie premier lineup announced you can expect the handsome and charismatic Hollywood icon to show up on a red carpet somewhere with a new "George Clooney Girlfriend" -- a somewhat mysterious and typically leggy and beautiful woman on his arm. After his celebrity sighting at the gala events, paparazzi photos inevitably leak showing him holding hands with the girl, walking arm in arm on a beach or heading out huddled together from a swank bistro in some international city known for being chic.

Last year, the woman to meet was none other than Italian swimsuit model Elisabetta Canalis. She and George allegedly met near his home in Lake Como, Italy. Eli (as her friends call her) was in her early thirties while they dated. George turned 50 during the course of their relationship.

They celebrity couple were probably more famous in Italy as a pair than anywhere else. Since Eli was famous for dating professional soccer players that were closer to her own age before hooking up with Clooney (and she was a host on TRL -- a show on the Italian version of MTV's music channel), people there seemed to know her better.

Elisabetta Canalis expressed early on that she wanted to become famous in America as well. She helped George Clooney learn to speak Italian while he worked on her English as a second language skills.

Clooney fans in the United States often wondered what she was like, noticing her tattoos and often times rough look in an evening gown. They had a chance to find out more about her when she appeared on Season 13 of Dancing With The Stars. Voted quickly off for her strangely aloof mannerisms, Eli got famous in the United States only for a brief flash. Her American career was helped along when she posed naked for PETA.

News she had been sending angry texts to her ex was actually the bigger headline about her during her time on DWTS. Why? Because George Clooney himself opened up and defended her to the press saying that the rumors she and he were fighting were not true and that Eli never sent any such messages.

What was true were rumors that George Clooney started dating professional wrestler Stacy Keibler very shortly after he and Eli split. Now, it is likely that her name will remain in the headlines tied with his until at least the next fall movie premier season. This year, his new movie Ides of March came out and she's been spotted smiling and cozying up to him, making her the latest in a long line of George Clooney girlfriend tokens that help the actor dispel gay rumors while keeping him company on and off movie sets.
