George Clooney News: The new George Clooney movie THE AMERICAN is about to come out, and the movie poster is done with a retro look. Inspired by Hollywood art of the 1970s, the ad gives people over the age a 40 a feeling of nostalgia for when men were men and movies were cleverly made without excessive language or graphic violece.

New movie 'The American' has iconic retro movie poster look --

The 1970s retro inspired movie poster to promote George Clooney's new film The American is already a hit with film critics.

The concept behind the poster was smart -- appeal to people who are old enough to have grown up alongside Clooney as contemporaries from his era by invoking nostalgia and the younger people who are just young enough to think it is trendy and cool to relieve the 70s.

While old school journalists who remember film classics such as Hitchcock movies and early James Bond films, younger bloggers simply have an eye for what is trendy now. These younger audiences are on a constant quest to rediscover the perpetually groovy, as the internet unveils a variety of pop culture history.

Focus Features has unveiled via Apple (via Fs.net) the official poster for Anton Corbijn’s new film The American starring George Clooney.

It is a sweet retro inspired poster mirroring itself to the great spy thriller ones from the 60s and 70s. You would think this movie was made then as Clooney even has sort of a Steve McQueen look.

A film adaptation of Martin Booth’s novel, A Very Private Gentleman this version is titled The American and is directed by Anton Corbijn.

Fused says, "In the film Clooney plays an assassin who hides out in an idyllic Italian town before carrying out one final assignment. He resists his usual aversion to human interaction and his friendships and romantic entanglements complicate his mission."

They go on to say, "The movie looks awesome and I can’t wait to see it especially with sweet posters like this to have."

HeyUGuys from the UK further shares the movie will star Anne Carey, Jill Green, Grant Heslov, Enzo Sisti, Ann Wingate, Moa Westeson and is directed by Anton Corbijn.

They say, "It’s scheduled for release 26th November and from what we’ve seen so far, it’s looking pretty good."

Collider.com further revealed critic opinion about the promotional poster, writing:

Focus Features has released the first poster for Anton Corbijn’s The American and it’s an eye-catcher.

It’s got a nice 70’s-esque feel to it and I support any poster that breaks from the bland floating-heads posters we see so often.

While the [iconic] poster almost makes the movie look like a vintage spy flick, The American is about an assassin (George Clooney) working one last job in Italy and begins to develop a friendship with a local priest and a romantic relationship with a local woman.
