George Clooney, the 52-year-old Academy Award winning actor, is engaged to Amal Alamuddin, 36, who is a British human rights lawyer. Clooney and Alamuddin began dating last fall and have spent a great deal of time together, according to a USA Today report on Sunday morning. During their brief relationship, they have been seen in New York, London, Tanzania and the Seychelles together.
Rumors of an engagement between the two having taken place began to surface Wednesday. Clooney and Alamuddin were out celebrating their engagement at Craig’s restaurant – a celebrity hotspot in West Hollywood on Wednesday. They were out for dinner with Cindy Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber in Malibu, Calif., on Thursday. That is when onlookers saw a ring of large proportions on Alamuddin’s finger, according to a New York Daily News report. In spite of the public celebrations and alleged flaunting, some reports say they are trying to keep the engagement low-key.
The two were first noticed by media in London last October and have reportedly been inseparable since then. While people know a great deal about George Clooney and his acting career, little is known about his bride-to-be so far. What is known is that she was born in Beirut. She studied at Oxford and NYU. Being an alumnus of NYU School of Law, Alamuddin worked as a student law clerk for Sonia Sotomayor who has since become a Supreme Court Justice.
This is Clooney’s second marriage. He was married to Talia Balsam in 1989. The marriage ended in divorced in 1993. After that marriage was dissolved, Clooney was known to have dated many women including model Lisa Snowdon, Italian actress Elisabetta Canalis, and former professional wrestler and model Stacy Keibler. Keibler, likely Clooney’s most serious relationship prior to hooking up with Alamuddin, split from the actor last July following a 2-year relationship. She married Jared Pobre, a businessman, in March and she is now expecting a child.
