CIAA 2013 is gearing up in Charlotte, that time of year when visiting alumni and students from 13 historically Black colleges and universities descend upon the city for basketball games and daytime and nighttime parties galore.
Speaking of parties, George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic have produced definitive party music over the years with classic tunes such as "Tear the Roof off the Sucker", "Cosmic Slop" and "Atomic Dog." Friday,. March 1 at 9 p.m. will be maximum party time when they appear at the Neighborhood Theatre for their usual CIAA gig.
The great thing about the venue is location, location, location, far from the Uptown traffic gridlock that is a part of the CIAA tournament. Count on the Neighborhood Theatre being jammed to capacity, nonetheless, with fans of all ages there with one accord -- to have a funky good time.
Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 on the day of the show. $60 VIP tickets include reserved seating, bar service to the VIP areas so you don't have to wait in line for beer, ability to run your tab with a credit card, 1 special edition VIP laminate for a souvenir, and 1 special edition concert poster.
Look for Clinton to have a new clean shaven appearance as he performs with the traditional cast including the ladies' favorite, Sir Nose Devoid of Funk.
