1. Flat Stanley. The Flat Stanley project has been going on for decades. Kids create a flat character and send him on adventures around the globe, tracking his travels as he goes. Stanley even has his own app for those who would rather participate in a digital project than a traditional one.
2. Symbolic Migration. The symbolic monarch migration project lets kids make and send paper butterflies to classrooms in Mexico. The butterflies will return in the spring at the same time as the real monarchs do, along with messages from the students who hosted them.
3. Postcrossing. The Postcrossing project allows people to send and receive snail mail postcards from all around the world. Once registered, you will get an address emailed to you. You will send a postcard to that address (up to five at once) and when the postcard arrives, the recipient will register it through the website. When that happens, your address will be sent to someone and they will send you a postcard. In this manner, you can collect as many post cards as you wish.
4. Amazing Kids Pen Pal Program. The Amazing Kids program is a traditional pen pal program. Pals are selected based on shared interests. The parents of the children are put in contact with one another to ensure that the match is a good one. Children can learn from one another in a safe, parent-monitored format.
