R2-KT was created by Albin Johnson, founder of the 501st Legion, master droid builder Jerry Greene and the R2 Builders Club, for Johnson’s daughter Katie, who tragically passed away from brain cancer in 2005 at the age of seven. In real life, R2-KT makes appearances at children’s hospitals, Star Wars Celebration and charity events in the southeastern United States.

In the "Star Wars" universe, the character has appeared in "Star Wars: The Clone Wars", and has been made an official part of the universe’s canon.

At the height of the Clone Wars, R2-KT was assigned to the 501st Legion and served on board a Republic assault ship attached to Jedi Knights Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Over the course of the war, "Katie" and R2 liked to meet and gossip about the war and the Republic Fleet. During the events of Rotta's kidnapping, the droid was present at a briefing of clone troopers and their Jedi commanders.

The astromech droid was also present at the Battle of Ryloth, the Sky Battle of Quell, and on Commander Wolffe's Acclamator I-class assault ship in the socket of a BTL-B Y-wing starfighter during the Mission to Aleen.

R2-KT eventually survived the Clone Wars and subsequently served in the Galactic Empire

Gentle Giant Ltd. is honored to create R2-KT as part of the Star Wars maquette line. More importantly, $10 from each R2-KT maquette sold will go to the Make-A-Wish® San Diego Chapter.

The R2-KT maquette will be sold at the Gentle Giant Booth at SDCC and will be listed for pre-order later today at this link for Premium Guild Members!
