Peruvian sideUniversitario de Deportesannounced that 17-year-old Andy Polo has packed his bags and will take a huge step in his career. Polo was recommended by Fiorentina man Juan Vargas and Genoa president Enrico Preziosi said he was willing to pay the money for the Peruvian phenom. “We paid for (Polo) based on his age and the market he was in,” said Preziosi. “But it is quite evident he has some very special numbers.”

The Universitario youngster was quite excited for his new challenge and wanted to make a quick impression on his new team. “ (Serie A) is one of the best leagues in the world and it would be a great place to obtain experience,” said Polo. “I want to adapt as quickly as possible and show everyone why they signed me. I would like to score many goals in Italy”.

Polo, know as "La Joya" (The Jewel), was one of the youngsters to look at in the past year in South America, despite his team struggling as the Peruvian giants staved off relegation this past year and currently find themselves in one of the wort economic crises of their grandiose history.

He was also in the radar of English sides Arsenal and Liverpool just a few months ago as well.

In 24 matches for Los Crema, Polo scored five goals. He was also recently part of Peru’s U-15 and U-17 national team. At the U-20 level, he led Universitario to the 2011 Copa Libertadores title beating archrivals Alianza Lima and then Boca Juniors in the final.

Just last year , when he was still 16, he was called up by national team coach Sergio Markarián to be part of the senior side. In the end he was not called up in the final list for the Copa América where Peru ended up in third place.
