As the New York Jets prepare to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, another Geno Smith revelation through on Thursday, September 5. The rookie quarterback has not and will not study Darrelle Revis. On the surface, it’s an interesting point, but if you think a little deeper, the news might not be so shocking.
According to CBSSports.com Geno has been heavy into studying the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a whole, but not the best cornerback in the league. Well, he could be joking, but he’s supposedly he’s getting all of his information about Revis from Mark Sanchez. Still, that wouldn’t be the real reason why Geno Smith is not looking at tape. For one, how much tape is there really of Revis with the Buccaneers? All the previous years can give Geno Smith a false read of what Darrelle Revis will look like in a Buccaneers’ uniform.
The second reason is the Jets want no part in testing Revis on Sunday. They’ll do their very best of keeping him out of the game. Maybe some fly patterns here and there, but unless there is a Revis cam, “Revis Island” won’t be visible.
When asked about not being studied on film by Geno Smith, Darrelle Revis just laughed and stated “I wonder why he didn’t study me.”
Who knows who will get the last laugh on Sunday?
