Genkai reborn: Playstation Cloud registered

With the possible announcement of the Playstation 4 set for tomorrow, domain names referring to an online streaming service called the Playstation Cloud have been found. Discovered by Twitter user, Superannuation, three domain names have been registered by Gaikai Inc, the cloud-based gaming service Sony acquired for $380 million last year. The links to these domains are as followed: PS-Cloud.net, PlayStation-Cloud.org and PlayStation-Cloud.com.

All Games Beta previously reported on the PS4’s ability to stream Playstation 3 games live by the supposed use of Genkai, in order to compensate for the lack of backwards compatibility through normal means, since PS4 uses a different cell processor than the PS3. They also reported on the possibility of the PS4 streaming games on other devices than the PS Vita, like smartphones or tablets. There’s no word yet if Sony will use their new streaming service to block used games on the PS4, like Microsoft is rumored by Edge to do with their always-online successor to the Xbox 360.
