With Steve Burton coming to Genoa City on CBS' The Young & the Restless, another General Hospital fan favorite is coming home to Port Charles with Genie Francis returning as the legendary Laura Webber Baldwin Spencer for the soap's 50th anniversary, Entertainment Weekly (EW) reported.
The actress, who completed her stint as Y&R's Genevieve Atkinson two months ago, is forever one-half of Luke & Laura, the iconic pair who define and redefine the term "supercouple" with one adventure after another -- paving the way for others such as Anna Devane & Duke Lavery, Bo & Hope and Patch & Kayla from NBC's Days of Our Lives (DOOL).
Despite a controversial beginning (Luke raped Laura), Luke & Laura has been compare to William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet: in love and always on the run. Their 1981 wedding was watched by over 30 million viewers -- remaining the most-watched soap opera episode in the history of daytime television. Laura have three children: Lucky and Lulu with Luke, and Nikolas with Stavros Cassadine.
"I don't know what the story is" Genie said in the interview. "I have no idea, but Frank [Valentini, GH's executive producer] is very persuasive, energetic, infectious and has a sense of fun, a positive-ness that makes you want to work for the guy. He assured me there was going to be nice stuff to play. I am choosing to believe him!
"It's not for me to tell them how to run their show. But my biggest concern was that there had to be a good reason for me to stay away from my family."
Genie's first GH airdate in almost five years is set to broadcast on February 11.
