Introducing AquAdvantage salmon that is genetically engineered to produce growth hormone year-round rather than as it does naturally for a small portion of the year is asking for trouble. If fast growing species of fish is suddenly introduced into a system it's asking for trouble in the food chain, as to who preys on who and when. You have to love the fact the report was released just a few days prior to Christmas as if America would be too busy to notice. Anglers and hunters know better than anyone the upset this will cause to turn Mother Nature’s ecosystem upside down.
The GE Salmon are said to have the same, texture, color, odor as a real salmon.
Irreversible harm
Just because we can doesn’t mean we should. Imagine introducing a human being into the planet who grows more quickly and produces growth hormone constantly. The dangers are wreckless and reordering the genetic code. Pretending these genetically altered salmon won’t get into the general population is like watching the cartoons and believing what can’t happen will. Humans have been wrong before and this is the case now. The assessment that this is ”alright for the public” is an incorrect assumption.
The public is not alright with the GE crops, does it matter what the FDA thinks about GE salmon
If the genetically altered food was labeled no one would buy it. And such will be the case for GE salmon. Safe? The public doesn’t want to eat it, doesn’t want their children eating it, and no one wants to get the cancer that will be a part of your life further down the line. The labeling of GE foods is not done because it is considered “bad business.” No kidding. The public has their rights too.
Breeding engineered animals is an ethical issue.
If we can’t grow salmon naturally why grow GE salmon
Did it ever occur to any one that damming up the waters is a large portion of the problem of growing them essentially? What difference does it make if you can grow one faster if it can’t get to where it needs to for reproduction and spawning? Release the waterways for their survival. The government dammed up the waterways now they want us to eat genetically altered salmon, go figure.
Chicken,beef and shrimp will be on the scientific table next, and at the rate the government is working who says we aren’t eating it already and it isn’t already on the farm and in the waters already? They are already complaining the shrimp numbers are low, who says low fish numbers ins't their propaganda to begin with just to be able to introduce "frankenfish."
The government is taking away our right to choose by not labeling in the first place
America is being forced to eat crops and now fish, the general public wants nothing to do with. Sure there are a few folks who don’t even care, but this is the United States and we have the right to make that choice for ourselves.
The food we eat should also be right in there with healthcare when it comes to voting and what is important, it’s the same thing. If we eat food that is genetically altered, health care will be more important than ever, as the cancers and tumors increase from eating growth hormones. Growing one that will produce more is not OK, no matter what the FDA says. People have already made the choice to eat growth hormone free meat by eating free-range meats.
