Scientists at the University of California San Diego and the London School of Economics have identified a gene that may be linked to whether or not someone is prone towards living outside their means in credit card debt.
The gene is Monoamine oxidase A (MAOA). Previous studies linked this gene to people who are impulsive. This new study reported that 15.9 percent of people with two "low" versions of the gene were more likely to live with credit card debt. Although existence of these genes does not guarantee a debt lifestyle, this study shows an increased risk towards debt.
But even if you have these genes, it's no excuse for a debt lifestyle. Be at cause for your life and take control of your financial situation. If you are not sure how to do so, look for classes on financial education in your area.
