Genesee Theatre in downtown Waukegan is hosting a free Halloween teaser show on Oct. 31, 2013 in anticipation of the full Houdini style performance being held on Nov. 1, 2013, according to an Oct. 13 announcement from Genesee Theatre. Harry Houdini, a famed illusionist, is recreated by Mario Manzini on the anniversary of Houdini's death.
For illusionist Mario Manzini, publicly risking life and limb is just another day at the office. At 6 p.m. on Oct. 31 in front of Waukegan's historic Genesee Theatre, Manzini will channel the spirit of Harry Houdini by attempting one of the magician's most frightening feats. He will try to escape from a straitjacket while dangling upside down, high above the street.
Manzini's teaser performance on Halloween is free, courtesy of The Genesee Theatre. Manzini chose to stage the spectacle on Halloween, which is the anniversary of Houdini's death. The Halloween performance is to whet our appetite for his full show, which takes place at the Theatre the following evening, Nov. 1 at 8 p.m.
Mario promises to amaze and confound spectators, as he performs many of Houdini's signature illusions onstage, including the infamous Milk Can Escape, in which he must extricate himself - while holding his breath - after being submerged in a water-filled milk can.
The historic Genesee Theatre is a fitting backdrop for Houdini's illusions as the opulent, Spanish Renaissance-style structure, built in the 1920's, is a known hotspot for paranormal activity.
Employees of the Genesee Theatre have reported hearing disembodied voices and seeing male and female apparitions for years. The press and public are invited to witness Mario's incredible escape in the free teaser performance on Halloween. To see the full performance on Nov. 1, reserve tickets before they all disappear. The performance is appropriate for all ages.
Tickets for the full performance on Nov. 1 ($32.50, $37.50 & $45.50) are available at the Genesee Theatre Box Office, all Ticketmaster outlets, online at Ticketmaster or charge-by-phone at 800-982-2787. The Genesee Theatre is located at 203 North Genesee St. in downtown Waukegan, a northern suburb of Chicago, Ill.
