Carrying on the musical legacy of her family, the gifted singer/songwriter, Sarah Lee Guthrie, has just released her newest album, a debut of family friendly folk inspired tunes, Go Waggaloo on the Smithsonian Folkways Recordings label.
Guthrie, no stranger on the music scene, made her first recording as a pint-sized vocalist, appearing with her very famous father, “Arlo” on his 1981 album Power of Love. As an adolescent, she would again join her dad on the Grammy-nominated Woody's 20 Grow Big Songs children's album, and ultimately become her father’s road manager, then member of his band, making her live debut with family and friends at Carnegie Hall.
Guthrie, whose sweet, mellow delivery and clever lyrics on Go Waggaloo is accompanied by appearances with her husband, Johnny Irion, and their two daughters, is also joined by numerous friends and family members including Arlo Guthrie, Pete Seeger and Tao Rodriguez-Seeger.
Go Waggaloo is a 13-track, 34 minute CD with accompanying 36-page booklet. The music is smooth and easy listening, appropriate for children of all ages as well as parents, and offers top rate production values and superb instrumentals.
The album includes three songs featuring lyrics written by Sarah Guthrie’s legendary grandfather “Woody,” which until now have never been put to music. Also included in the line-up are eight songs written by Sarah Lee and family, and all can be sound sampled and downloaded from Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, where you can also download a free copy of “Cuz We’re Cousins” from the album.
