General VA Fund remains liquid, government employees will have to learn to float

According to Scott Pattison, a former VA Budget director who currently leads the National Association of State Budget Officers, the recent reduction in Virginia’s government employees is similar to the “cuts” being made in other states.

Since when does VA care what other states are doing?

Finance Secretary for VA, Ric Brown, also noted that there are worries about a weakening U.S. economy and chronic high levels of unemployment, coming federal aid cuts and increasing costs for programs like Medicaid.

The ironic part about this list is that the high unemployment, weakening U.S. economy, and coming federal aid cuts are largely the result of a House of Representatives whose favorite word appears to be “no,” a House that has largely been supported by the McDonnell administration.

The cuts in government payroll numbers come in the wake of general fund revenues which have shown growth for over more than a year.

And all the while, Gov. McDonnell attempts to find ways to grease his gubernatorial campaign contributors with pork projects and other assorted political “thank you’s.”
