It’s been several weeks since the reveal of Red Arrow, the last general disclosed by Electronic Arts for the new Command and Conquer reboot. Now, in celebration of GamesCom, EA has decided to release several new desktop backgrounds for what is likely to be all the EU and APA generals that are playable at launch. It is worth noting that, at the time of writing at least, there have been no new “general cards” that describe these new characters or what technologies they bring to the game. At the time of writing, the new GLA generals have not been given the same treatment. This could change as things get closer to GamesCom.
For the EU side, newcomers Cleaver, Cutting Edge, Lupa, and Bulldog join previously revealed commanders Ghost and Mercury Red (as well as the frequently teased Daedalus.) At present there is little information revealed on any of the new generals beyond a name and a picture. So in the interest of speculation and conjecture; Bulldog does tanks, Cutting Edge is a replacement for Zero Hour’s Laser General, Lupa is a Spec Ops/Stealth commander, and Cleaver focuses on Blitzkrieg/Heavy Infantry tactics. Daedalus is almost certainly the EU Air Force commander.
In the army of the Asian Pacific Alliance, Red Arrow and Beast welcome several fellow officers with specialties a bit easier to figure out. Blackjack and Inferno are the confirmed names of two previously teased generals while Taskmaster and “1000 Suns” have been rarely seen before. Taskmaster’s specialty remains difficult to discern (though it is possible he will either be the new tank or mass infantry general of the APA) while Inferno likely focuses on fire weaponry and Blackjack is the APA Special Operations commander. For Thousand Suns… fans of the original Command and Conquer Generals should recognize the name of his likely predecessor, Tsing Shi Tao.
