General Motors issues more safety related recalls

General Motors mechanical woes continue in mid- 2014 as the company issues four more recalls, according to a CNBC story published June 27, 2014.

This latest round of recalls comes on the heels of several others issued earlier in the year and is cause for concern among motorists and investors, many of whom rightfully doubt General Motors competence as an automaker.

Safety is the reason this time around with a total of 428,211 vehicles slated for recall and repair. The affected vehicles and issues are:

  • 29,019 2013-14 Chevrolet Cruz sedans in the U.S. along with 4,066 in Canada. These recalls are due to the driver’s side airbag inflator. The inflator, as it presently exists, could rupture.
  • 392,459 full-size pickup trucks and SUVs in the U.S. with another 53,607 in Canada and 20,874 sold in other countries. Affected vehicles include the four- wheel drive Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, GMC Yukon, Chevrolet Tahoe, and Chevrolet Suburban. General Motors said that the transmissions on these vehicles could shift into neutral at any moment, leading to a loss of power while driving or causing the vehicles to start rolling if parked.
  • 4,794 2013-2014 Chevrolet Caprice police cars and 2014 Chevrolet SS sport sedans in the U.S. This recall is not as serious as the ones above and involves windshield wiper module adjustment.
  • 1,939 2014 Chevy Corvettes sold in the U.S., 33 sold in Canada, and 82 sold in other countries. This recall is due to safety concerns involving rear shock absorbers.

Anyone who owns one of the above affected vehicles is encouraged to visit the GM Recall web page for more information, including where to take the car or truck for service.
