‘General Hospital’ news: Ilene Kristen returns as Delia Ryan

Ilene Kristen is bringing her “Ryan’s Hope” character to Port Charles. As first reported by Soap Opera Digest on Jan. 20, Kristen will be returning to “General Hospital” as Delia Ryan.

As a nice node to ABC Daytime history, Kristen reprised the role she played on “Ryan’s Hope” from 1975-78 and again briefly from 1982-83 and 1986-89. Viewers learned that Delia had an affair with the late Victor Jerome and the result was Ava Jerome (Maura West). Delia, however, didn’t interact with Ava during her brief appearance back in October 2013, so it will be interesting to see how the strained mother/daughter relationship plays out.

GH executive producer Frank Valentini is excited about the return. He tells Soap Opera Digest:

“Ilene did a fantastic job and Delia is an important character. I think her return will show viewers another side of Ava.”

Kristen who also played Roxy on “One Life To Live” will have scenes with two of her co-stars from the cancelled soap. She has already had scenes with Michael Easton and she will have scenes with Kristen Alderson who will play her granddaughter on the show. But the real test will be scenes she shares with Maura West, her onscreen daughter.

West is definitely excited about working with Ilene Kristen. She says, “Ilene is fantastic and I look forward to having scenes with her. That mother/daughter relationship is one I would love to see fleshed out.”

Just how will Delia Ryan deal with her daughter’s misdeeds and secrets? You’ll have to watch to find out.
