‘General Hospital’ heartthrob to compete on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Season 19

Will he have the moves like Jagger? Former “General Hospital” star Antonio Sabato Jr. is the first celebrity announced for the new season of “Dancing With the Stars.” On Tuesday, E! News reported that the hunky soap star will compete on the upcoming 19th season of the celebrity ballroom competition, which debuts next month. ABC hasn’t confirmed the casting announcement -- the full cast will be announced on “Good Morning America” on Sept. 4 – but inside sources tell E it’s a done deal.

Sabato starred on “GH” for from 1992 to 1995 as dreamy Jagger Cates, and he definitely wouldn’t be the first ABC alum to trade a soap script for a salsa. Other stars from the long running soap who have competed on “DWTS” in the past include Kelly Monaco and Ingo Rademacher.

In addition to his “General Hospital” past, Sabato has played Dante Damiano on “The Bold and the Beautiful,” starred in the VH1 reality series “My Antonio,” and had a sizzling cameo in Janet Jackson’s 1990 “Love Will Never Do Without You” video. he also modeled for a pretty memorable Calvin Klein underwear campaign.

As for what kind of music he might want to dance to, Sabato once told Redbook he’s a big ‘80s music fan. "I’d play Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran, and George Michael for sure,” he said of his favorite music genre. “I like music that just gives you goose bumps.”

Sabato’s pro partner hasn't been confirmed, but the previously announced female professional dancers revealed earlier this month include Cheryl Burke, Karina Smirnoff, Witney Carson, Allison Holker, Peta Murgatroyd and Emma Slater. Additional cast for the upcoming season includes male pro dancers Derek Hough, Mark Ballas, Val Chmerkovskiy, Tony Dovolani, and newcomers Keo Mostepe and Artem Chigvinstev.

“Dancing With the Stars” 19 premieres Monday, Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
