‘General Hospital’ has been flooded with new characters over the last couple years and the influx of new citizens making their way to Port Charles will continue. According to Soaps In Depth on April 15, the show has released a casting notice looking for a female character that sounds similar to the description of Sabrina (Teresa Castillo).
The new female character is described as a woman “originally from Mexico” who comes to Port Charles with aspirations to build a career in medicine. It doesn’t say whether she is looking to become a nurse or a doctor but it will be a major recurring role with a possibility to become a contract role.
The casting call sounds exactly like Sabrina, except the fact that the character is from Mexico and Sabrina is from Puerto Rico, but a source told Soaps In Depth that the casting notice is definitely not for Sabrina, but for a completely new role. The description does suggest a possible recast or temporarily replacement for Castillo who will go on maternity leave during the time the new character is said to begin shooting.
Castillo first announced her pregnancy back in December, announcing to PEOPLE magazine that her and her husband, Shane Aaron, are expecting their first child in May. The show, of course, has written the pregnancy into the show. Castillo’s current storyline involves Sabrina being pregnant with Patrick’s (Jason Thompson) child. The pregnancy came just as Robin (Kimberly McCullough) returned to reclaim her family, leaving Sabrina in an awkward position. Now with Robin gone, Patrick may be moving his way back to Sabrina, but Sabrina’s ex-flame Carlos (Jeffrey Vincent Parise) is also making himself present in Sabrina’s life.
Although the new character sounds a lot like Sabrina, it doesn’t sound like Castillo is going anywhere, except to take a few weeks off to enjoy her new child due in May. Who do you think the new female character will be and what do you think her connections to Port Charles will be?
