Genealogical and historical events to be held in and around metro Atlanta during March 2013:

1 March – “Maritime Records at the National Archives” will be presented by Sara Brewer. The first Friday Freebies Lunch and Learn is sponsored by the National Archives at Atlanta, 5780 Jonesboro Rd, Morrow, GA 30260. Bring your lunch; the program begins at noon.

2 March – “Genealogical Methodology: The Basics and Beyond” will be presented by Deborah Abbott, PhD. The program is sponsored by the Georgia Genealogical Society. The program will meet from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Special Collections Library, University of Georgia, 300 S. Hull St, Athens, GA 30605. 8 March – “Just the Facts: Filling the Blanks on Lineage Society Applications” will be presented by Susan Sloan. The free monthly Lunch and Learn Lecture Series will be held at the Georgia Archives, 5800 Jonesboro Rd, Morrow, GA 30260 from 12-1p.m. For more information, call 768-364-3730.

9 March – Annual genealogy workshop will be sponsored by Our Genealogy Group at Clayton State University. Everyone is welcome from beginners to advanced researchers. Come with your questions; expect an answer. The workshop will meet on SATURDAY at Clayton State University, 2000 Clayton State Blvd, Morrow, GA 30260. 12 March – The Friends of the National Archives monthly webinar will be “loc.gov: Using Our Nation’s Library Online” presented by Laura Prescott. The webinars are held monthly on the second Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time; attend from the comfort of your home. Registration is free at Friends website.

16 March – Chuck Witcher, a Coweta County native and lawyer, will answer questions about land ownership, title research, and how to use land records in genealogical research. The program is sponsored by the Cowetta County Genealogical Society. The meeting will be held from 1:30 until 3:30 p.m. at the CCSG Library, Grantville, GA 30220.

16 March – "Learning History on the Highways & Byways of Georgia" be presented by Ed Jackson, Christy Crisp, and Steve Longcrier. The program sponsored by the Friends of the National Archives-Southeast Region. The meeting will be held at the National Archives at Atlanta, 5780 Jonesboro Rd, Morrow, Ga 30260. Arrive at 8:30 a.m. and research before the program.

18 March – “Soldiers Veteran Homes” will be presented by Richard Sayre, CG at 8:00 p.m. The webinar is sponsored by the Georgia Genealogical Society.

26 March – The monthly meeting of the Genealogy Society of Cobb County will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 189 Church St, Marietta, GA. The meeting is open to the public and meets 7:00 until 8:00 p.m.
