10 February – “Exploring the Georgia Archives Virtual Vault” will be presented by Kayla Barrett, Descriptive Services Manager, Georgia Archives. The free monthly Lunch and Learn Lecture Series will be held at the Georgia Archives, 5800 Jonesboro Rd, Morrow, GA 30260 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. For more information, call 768-364-3730.
Commemorate the week of 12 February – In 1733 General James Oglethorpe landed his ship with men, women, and children to establish the colony of Georgia. The Georgia Historical Society celebrations include a parade, tea, festival, and Fort Frederica Living History Encampment. For dates and times, check the Society’s website.
13 February – The Friends of the National Archives monthly webinar will be “Using Civil War Records to Research African American Ancestors” presented by Michael Hait, CG. The webinars are held monthly on the second Monday at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time; attend from the comfort of your home. Registration is free at Friends website.
18 February – The Black History Month program will feature the Gullah Geechee culture presented by the Afro American Historical and Genealogical Society (AAGS). The program is free, but reservations are required. The program will be held at the National Archives at Atlanta, 4780 Jonesboro Rd, Morrow, GA 30260. For more information, call 770-968-2100.
20 February – The Georgia Genealogical Society monthly webinar will be “The Power of DNA in Unlocking Family Relationships” presented by Ugo A. Perego, PhD. This month only will be viewed at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time; attend from the comfort of your home. Registration is free at the GGS website.
28 February – Genealogy Society of Cobb County monthly meeting will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 189 Church St, Marietta, GA. “Military Records” will be presented by Lee Tucker. The meeting is open to the public and meets from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m.
