Tim Tebow found support from an unlikely quarter recently......Gene Simmons, lead singer for the rock band KISS, according to a recent article in USA Today. Simmons said, "He's got a religious passion, as well he should, we're in America." Simmons spoke to Radio.com this week about his hopes Tebow will play for his football team.
Simmons and KISS bandmate Paul Stanley own the Arena Football League team, which will be named LA KISS. Simmons was quoted as saying he had made an offer to Tebow to play quarterback for his newly-acquired team. He said he hadn't heard back from Tebow.
The rock star said that Tebow is considering the opportunity seriously. Tebow won the Heisman Trophy while playing quarterback for the University of Florida Gators and led the Denver Broncos to the playoffs while he was in the NFL. He was released by the New England Patriots a few weeks ago.
Simmons also said that Tebow is proud to be a Christian and there is nothing wrong with that. He criticized the news media and pop culture media for making fun of Tebow's religion. He contrasted Tebow's treatment at the hands of the sports media to that received by Michael Vick.
"I never saw the media picking on Michael Vick for torturing dogs. Or this other football player, who's alleged to have killed, committed murder. They consider that activity "cool. But a guy who's religious and got family values isn't cool? He's cool to me."
Earlier this year while attending the Preakness with wife Shannon Tweed, Simmons said the media should be called to task, and they should lose their license, because "it's slander and defamation. You're making fun of somebody's religion."
The rock star also said the Ten Commandments and religion are good for mankind.
Tebow is the son of missionaries and speaks regularly about his Christian beliefs. While at Florida he painted Bible verses under his eyes such as John 3:16 to increase people's interest in the Bible. It's doubtful with all the makeup that Gene Simmons and his band wear on their faces that they would have any problem with the All-American believer Tebow emblazoning Bible verses in his eyeblack if he does play for their team.
