You really can't judge a book by it's cover. If more families practiced family values as depicted in Gene Simmons hit television show, "Family Values," the world would be a much better place.

You can imagine my surprise as I was flipping through channels one day and came across this fire breathing rocker stripped of make up and heels, in his living room with his family. After a double take, I settled in to watch his show. I do not know what I thought this Kiss Icon would be doing at this time in his life, but I never imagined that I would ever be in awe of his child rearing skills. Not to mention the great partnership that he and Shannon share on the screen.

I do not know if I fit into the population that was targeted to watch this show, but I not only find it entertaining, but very informative. After spending years helping broken people and families find their way back as a mental health counselor, seeing how this hard rocker lives at home has amazed me. I love this show and the four major players in it. Gene is the modern day Ozzie Nelson or Ward Clever. The pride and love he has for his family is heart warming. Shannon shares the same adornment for the family as Gene, and she is the one that keeps them all together. They are the modern day all American couple.

Shannon's sense of humor has been handed down to the kids, Nick and Sophie. It is very entertaining to watch her and her off spring poke fun at all of Gene's escapades. It is a good kind of fun. These are four people that are a family who love each other and actually enjoy one another's company. This is very rare in family life today. They have managed to take old fashion values and live them out in today's very different world. Shannon is still as gorgeous as she was when she was crowned the beauty queen. Beauty never went to her head, and she is just as beautiful on the inside as we watch her tend to the wants and needs of her family.

I know we are seeing just what the camera lets us see, but there is no question that this is such a healthy and well rounded family. Gene Simmons greatest accomplishments are shared with the viewers as he tears up in pride watching Nick sing the blues and Sophie play her volley ball games. Yes, Gene Simmons, it is good to be you, but for many other reasons then wealth and fame, but I am sure you know that already.
