Tuesday, General Stanley McChrystal has been called to the White House to meet with President Obama Wednesday; he also apologized Tuesday for his Rolling Stone interview and the controversial comments made by himself and his staff about Obama’s administration. General McChrystal is currently the top commander in Afghanistan.
McChrystal and some of his staff made comments about Obama’s administration that will appear in a Rolling Stone article due out Friday, including mocking Joe Biden.
McChrystal issued an apology Tuesday for the article profile, and he reportedly fired a press aide over it.
"I extend my sincerest apology for this profile. It was a mistake reflecting poor judgment and should never have happened," McChrystal said in a Pentagon statement. "Throughout my career, I have lived by the principles of personal honor and professional integrity. What is reflected in this article falls far short of that standard."
The Rolling Stone article is written by Michael Hastings, and no one has questioned the validity of the content in the article. Hastings wrote that McChrystal and his staff imagined ways of dismissing Vice-President Joe Biden with one-liners. Although President Obama is not criticized in the article, Hastings wrote that McChrystal and Obama “failed to connect” and that others in a room of top military officials thought he looked "uncomfortable and intimidated."
