Geist of Saint Traft | Innistrad

Geist of Saint Traft is a mythic white/blue legendary Spirit in Magic: The Gathering’s Innistrad.  Geist of Saint Traft may be dead – but he’s also exceptional at making your opponent suffer the same fate.  Geist of Saint Traft was previewed today by Doug Beyer on the official Magic: The Gathering site.

Legendary Creature – Spirit Cleric Mythic Rare

Hexproof (This creature can’t be the target of spells or abilities your opponents control.)

Whenever Geist of Saint Traft attacks, put a 4/4 white Angel creature token with flying onto the battlefield tapped and attacking.  Exile that token at the end of combat.

2/2

Geist of Saint Traft with a sword equipped or any other kind of boost is a terrifying prospect indeed.  For just three points of mana you get an untouchable assailant that brings along an evasive 4/4 each and every time it swings into ghostly battle.  6 points of damage starting on turn 4, an incredibly aggressive option that can’t be targeted by opposing removal spells.

Go into control mode after fielding Geist of Saint Traft and the game will be over in short order.  This ghostly legend’s only real weakness is that it can be blocked and has no natural evasive abilities – without other plans, your 2/2 will trade or be crushed and the angels in the sky will cease to ferry over their holy fervor.

Geist of Saint Traft has constructed potential with some backup, a difficult to deal with fast-out-the-gate drop perfect to backup with countermagic and control.  This Spirit has the capability to cause the dark denizens of Innistrad some nightmares of their own.

In Limited if you can get Geist of Saint Traft down early on a dry board you'll be poised for a landslide win.  Back it up with some of the removal options we’ve already seen in blue/white like Claustrophopia and your combined forces of apparition and angel will make short work of your opponent.

And that’s not all – Geist of Saint Traft will make an interesting option for the Commander format as well.

Get your first chance to call upon this holy ghost at Magic: The Gathering Innistrad prerelease events, kicking off September 24-25.
