March 30th is officially International TableTop Day. Geek & Sundry announced yesterday, via YouTube, a special day to encourage table top game play all around the world. According to the press release, the event was inspired by the generous outpouring of support for one of the YouTube channel's original shows, Table Top, hosted by Wil Wheaton.
International TableTop Day is being sponsored by some of the gaming industry's top publishers such as Asmodee (Dixit and 7 Wonders), Days of Wonder (Ticket to Ride), Mayfair Games (Settlers of Catan), and Steve Jackson Games (Munchkin and Chez Geek). In conjunction with the publishers, gaming clubs and local gaming stores are invited and encouraged to participate in the event by registering via the TableTop Day website. Gamers can even register private events. Once approved, selected participants will receive kits with promotional items from the sponsoring publishers to distribute during the game day. Currently, kits are limited and not all locations are able to get them. This, however, should not discourage people from taking part from the event because it's all about giving and nothing about receiving.
Those who are participating are also asked to take to social media and use the hashtag #tabletopday to help share their experience and let others know they will be playing games that day. In addition, the folks over at Geek & Sundry will also be live streaming on their YouTube channel, playing games as well.
Battleground Games & Hobbies, located in Abington, Mass., will be one of the local gaming stores taking part in the special day. The store will be running live demos all day with a focus on the games featured on the show. However, other games may be available for demonstration, and the store asks customers call ahead for availability.
