So many nonprofit organizations are struggling these days. Unfortunately, many have fallen by the wayside, leaving important causes to fend for themselves. The Gebert Gallery decided to lend a hand to a truly important organization, The HARC Foundation.
Gebert Gallery has been bringing contemporary art to LA since April of 2008 under the leadership of Director Sandro Gebert. Being a supporter of the arts and arts education, Gebert Gallery was happy to offer to hold The HARC Foundation’s gala benefit Saturday, February 4th at 2:00 p.m.
The HARC Foundation (Help Artists & Rehabilitate Children) was established in 1990 by Susan M. Marchese. It was created with two purposes: first, to discover, support, promote and present emerging creative artists from all art disciplines and second, to promote the use of the creative arts as a therapeutic science in the rehabilitation of abused and neglected children.
Since the economy has affected funding, Marchese has been forced to become inventive and create new ways to raise money, such as her latest endeavor, "COMMAND PERFORMANCE." Marchese explains, “This is the first time we've ever held a benefit event like ‘COMMAND PERFORMANCE’, when well-known creative and performing artists have offered their talents to help HARC raise the funding needed to present their annual awards.” She adds, "One hundred percent of all individual and corporate donations received go directly to the creative artists. Expenses, goods and services are out-of-pocket donations or provided on a pro-bono basis."
Paul Dahmen, Sales Director for Gebert, talks about how the gallery became involved with The HARC Foundation. He explains, “The Gebert Gallery decided to host this year's HARC Foundation benefit because of the great work they do across the board, ranging from helping emerging artists break through to hit the next level of their careers to working with abused and neglected children through art therapy. The Gebert family has always supported the arts and art related programs and are proud to assist during these challenging economic times, especially for important non-profit organizations like The HARC Foundation.”
This salon style concert will feature artists such as poet Stacy Gnall and composer/vocalist Rebecka Larsdotter and her band, as well as internationally renowned composer/pianist, Patricio Da Silva and pianist, Markus Pawlik. Wine & antipasti from MOSTO Enoteca will be served.
In addition to the concert, a silent auction will be held featuring the works of local creative Artists Derrik Van Nimwegen, A.M. Rousseau, Darla Warner, Elana Kundell, Les Mayers, Carol Henry, Candace Biggerstaff, Leo Garcia, and Domenico Foschi.
Artists who have donated their works include Les Mayers, a contemporary artist, whose work is at the forefront of a new movement that he refers to as “Digital Impressionism,” and has evolved by combining traditional art techniques with advances in modern technology.
On Saturday afternoon, February 4th at 2:00 PM, "COMMAND PERFORMANCE" will be held at Gebert Gallery, 1345 Abbot Kinney Blvd. in Venice. (http://gebertgallery.com/)
