'Gears of War: Judgment' includes unlockable second campaign

"Gears of War: Judgment" from Epic Games and People Can Fly takes a look back at the early days of the Locust invasion of the surface world with Damon Baird and Cole Train as the focus. We learned Monday that a second the developers have hidden a second campaign called "Aftermath" featuring the duo set during the end game of "Gears of War 3".

"We wanted to do something that added context to the game, so you had that beginning part, but then this ties everything together with the main trilogy as well," lead level designer Jim Brown told OXM during a preview event. "So you'll see when you go in there some people you recognize some places, maybe even some enemies and then see how the two storylines weave together in the context of the whole franchise."

"Obviously we don't want to give away too many spoilers in how it's going to end or what you're going to see," he added, "But the basic gist of it is that when they're at the fort, Marcus sends Baird and Cole off to find supplies and reinforcements, and then he goes off to Azura. Then at the very end they show up with helicopters. This is where they went and what they did on that mission."

This second campaign will become available in "Judgment" once players unlock all the stars in the main campaign. Borrowing a little from "Bulletstorm", these stars can be earned by completing various challenges for headshots, gibs and getting through a level without needing a revival.

Details on how long this extra content will be in "Gears of War: Judgment" have not been revealed yet. Xbox 360 owners will be able to find out for themselves though when the game releases on March 19.
