'Gears of War: Judgement' to include a free copy of first 'Gears of War' game

The prequel to the "Gears of War" series, "Gears of War: Judgement", is getting ready to drop onto the Xbox 360 in a month or so. With that comes the question for fans of the series, have you ever played the first "Gears of War" game?

According to Epic, the guys behind the "Gears of War" franchise, more then half of the players who picked up "Gears of War 3" hadn't played the original. It's easy to see what gamers have played thanks to the Achievement list for gamertags.

To help gamers who may have skipped the first game get a handle on what's going on, Epic and People Can Fly are including download tokens for "Gears of War" with the early launch copies of "Gears of War: Judgement".

The download tokens will get you the first "Gears" game via Microsoft's Games on Demand service. The game is a 6.3GB download, so gamers should clear some space on their hard drives before downloading.

Of course if you miss out on the early copies of the free game, GameStop has been selling the first "Gears" game for $2.99 for a while now. That's not a bad price for a great shooter.

"Gears of War: Judgement" is launching for the Xbox 360 on March 19, 2013.
