On Sunday, January 29, wheels will spin at area gyms to raise money for Gearing Up, a Philadelphia non-profit whose mission is to provide women in transition from drug and alcohol addiction, domestic violence, and/or homelessness with the skills, equipment, and guidance to ride a bicycle safely for exercise, transportation, and personal growth.
Cyclists with cabin fever can quit waiting for spring and join the merriment of spin classes led by talented, volunteer instructors in gyms located in Queen Village, Manayunk, Center City, East Falls, Lansdale and the Main Line. Cycling luminaries including World Masters Track Champion Joe Wentzell will lead 90-minute classes.
This marks the second year for the event which has expanded into more locations and has added a yoga option Fair weather cyclists can get their spin on indoors this weekend while raising money for a good cause.
Gearing Up Founding Director Kristin Gavin is looking forward to the event and encourages non-cyclists to attend the yoga fundraiser at lululemon in Center City. "Get your down dog on for a charitable cause! We have added a 75-minute yoga class this Sunday at 9:30 am."
In addition to yoga and cycling, Gearing Up will also sponsor a raffle with over $3,000 in prizes. The raffle is open to everyone, not just participants. Raffle tickets are on sale until February 10th and can be purchased via Bikereg. Winners will be randomly drawn using www.random.org at the end of the day on February 10th and notified via email.
Tickets are only on sale on bikereg.com and will not be available for purchase at the event.
