Duke Nukem Forever is finished.
For generations of gaming consoles, Duke Nukem Forever has become infamous for it's many delays. More recently, it's become infamous in some of the mainstream media for allegedly controversial content.
On June 11 in Dallas, visitors to Gearbox Software's Community Day will get to see it all first-hand days before the title's North American release as fans celebrate alongside the company who finally helped bring the game to market.
"Community Day is a celebration of all things Gearbox," said Gearbox Software Community Manager Chris Faylor. "Chiefly, it’s a celebration of our awesome fans. Without our fans, we wouldn’t exist. We wouldn’t be able to do what we do. It’s their support that has allowed us to establish original properties like Brothers in Arms and Borderlands as well as work on popular brands like Aliens and Duke Nukem."
Community Day, which is taking place in the Palladium Ballroom, will allow gamers and fans to interact directly with the studio talent.
"Community Day allows us to engage the fans one-on-one," Faylor added. "It lets us interact directly with our fanbase, which is always great. Fans will meet the people and hear the tales behind their favorite games. On the flip side, that means we get to meet the people that play our games and hear their stories. That’s always awesome."
In addition to allowing players to sample Duke Nukem Forever before it's official North American launch, other activities and events are scheduled, according to Faylor.
"I don’t want to spoil any surprises quite yet, but we’ve got some pretty cool stuff lined up," he said. "There will be panels and presentations delving into some of Gearbox’s biggest games. There will be the first-ever public unveiling of never-before-seen materials. And for those over the age of 21, there will be the chance to attend one heck of a party afterwards."
