To celebrate this past weekend’s PAX East event, Gearbox Software gave out a round of SHiFT codes which will give Borderlands 2 players access to free in-game loot. The developer released the new codes via Twitter on April 12 that will grant fans with five Golden Keys inside the co-op shooter.
SHiFT codes were set up by Gearbox Software as a way to deliver fans new content. The majority of the time, the codes exchange for Borderlands 2 Golden Keys. However, the developer occasionally releases special content for the game such as new character heads and skins.
The currently active sets of SHiFT codes are good for five Golden Keys. The codes can be redeemed from the main menu of Borderlands 2, after which the keys will automatically appear in their character’s inventory the next time that they load a game save. Golden Keys themselves are the only way that fans can open the special loot chest located within the game’s city of Sanctuary. By opening the chest, players will receive a level-appropriate piece of rare equipment from the game.
Each platform has its own unique SHiFT code which gamers can apply to their account a single time. Players have until the end of Monday to redeem the new set of codes which have been posted individually on Twitter. Gearbox Software regularly awards Borderlands 2 fans with frequent code releases.
Borderlands 2 is out now on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC/Mac. The final add-on for the loot-based shooter releases later this week after fans of the game have already enjoyed a long run of DLC packs featuring additional story content, new playable characters, and level-cap increases. A new entry of the series, titled Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, has been announced to release later this year from developer 2K Australia. The game will take place between the events of the first two Borderlands titles and will introduce for new character classes.
