THE GEAR:

The new Voyageurs from Keen are a bit of a trail hybrid. The shoes are light (15.06 oz), supportive, and yet very durable. The uppers are comfortable without sacrificing toughness and the same holds true for the soles. Mesh ventilation windows and a moisture wicking polyester lining provide excellent breathability and comfort.

The Voyageurs also feature Keen's S3 and metatomical footbed design: Shock, suspension, stability (S3) – is engineered to support the foot on impact, dissipate shock and reduce the odds of twisting an ankle. While the internal support mechanism of the metatomical footbed is anatomically engineered to provide excellent arch support and cradle the natural contours of the foot.

THE TEST:

I've hiked to Falls Creek Falls, Triple Falls, and numerous other destinations in these shoes. I've also worn them as "around town" shoes quite extensively. Whether hiking or exploring the city, the Voyageurs performed admirably in all situations. The souls were stiff enough to prevent my feet from getting sore on rocky trails, but supple and light enough to remain comfortable throughout the day.

THE BOTTOM LINE:

The Voyageurs fall comfortably between hiking boots and trail runners. They are a great blend of the lightweight comfort people seek in trail runners, and the durable support sought from a good pair of hiking boots. For those looking for just such a hybrid, the Voyageurs by Keen will do the trick nicely.
