The Global Conservation Group, primarily known for its work on behalf of animal rights has inserted itself into a Supreme Court case.
The organization says they're filing a court brief asking the seven justices to uphold the Wisconsin Domestic Partnership Law. Currently, a small Wis. anit-gay group is suing the State claiming that a Domestic Partnership (equivalent to a half marriage) grants gay people "too many rights".
In the State of Wisconsin, gay people are denied about 1,000 rights and benefits, however if a same-sex couple enters into a domestic partnership, they are eligible to visit each other in the hospital or adopt children in some cases, however those limited rights may be taken away.
The GCG's Division of Legal Affairs asserts in their brief that, in part, "This case has no standing as the Wisconsin Constitution grants same-sex couples the right to enter into a domestic partnership. This entity is entirely separate and not related to marriage in any way, as it only grants the bare minimum of rights to gay couples. The plaintiffs in this case are trying to take away the very few rights that gay people have left and it's disgusting, unconstitutional, and illegal."
