Living in the information age we are constantly being flooded with blogs, vlogs, rss, mobile news and many other news outlets with little focus on community in many cases. Even with so many countless new methods for distributing information and ideas public-access television organizations remains in service in their municipalities and continue to adapt to new technologies in order to continue serving their missions and goals within their own communities.
With the first public access television also known as community television began in 1968 the US public access television serves as an alternative to fulfill some social and community need. In most countries public access is broadcast on cable or what some may call open channels except countries like Australia, Denmark, Norway where terrestrial tv transmission is very common (UHF or digital) where channels are for profit operations.
Launching this Saturday July 13 in Brooklyn NY is a show called Gazzebo. The show has a real reality talk show setting . Gazzebo is set to air on public access station BCAT (Brooklyn Community access television) with the goal and focus being to serve community interest and on global scale. The show producer is Brooklyn native Shiavonne Manswell who described the show stating “ My GazZebo” originates from the fact that it is a shelter for relaxation and conversation amongst those within its confines. The “GazZebo” provides the ideal conditions for minds to convene in open forum, recoup from life’s ills through discussion & understanding. It is a genuine “meeting of the minds”.
